Quantum Touch is a style of energy work in which practitioners use their hands or thoughts to project healing energy to patients. Followers of Quantum Touch believe that the body is very capable of self-healing, but needs to be vibrating at a high frequency in order to thrive. The practitioner brings their own body into that high frequency through special breathing patterns and meditation, and then entrains (or brings into similar frequency) the patient's body so that it can heal itself.

The concept of Quantum Touch originated in 1978, when Richard Gordon attended a workshop by the healer Robert Rasmusson. Gordon refined the knowledge he gained into a unique system of energy healing that he named Quantum Touch. The therapy evolved and grew with the help of a Native American healer and Qi Gong Instructor, and is now gaining popularity faster than ever.

Clients are asked to make a list of things that need to be addressed, i.e. illnesses, pain, and emotional blocks. The practitioner will meet with the client in their office, a quiet place with soft music and a comfortable atmosphere. The client will usually lie down, or may be seated in a chair while the practitioner places their hands on the client's body. Clients are asked to provide feedback and notify the practitioner should he need to use the restroom, or if he is experiencing any discomfort. After the session, clients are provided with a few minutes to recoup and are asked to drink plenty of fluids. Repeat treatments may be necessary, depending on client's ailment.

- Clients can be taught the principles of Quantum Touch so that they may heal themselves.
- Healing of the body is accelerated.
- Quantum Touch can effectively be combined with other therapies.
- Quantum Touch is non-invasive.
|
Side-Effects/Contra-Indications:
|
- Because of the acceleration in healing with Quantum Touch, clients need to keep in close contact with their physicians to ensure that they still require medication.
- Clients need to drink plenty of water for a few days following a session, since toxins are continually released and will need to be flushed from the body.
- In rare situations, pain could increase after a session due to a block in the healing process. Communicating with the practitioner can halt this pain.

Those who wish to study Quantum Touch therapy are encouraged to become familiar with the body's innate energetic capabilities. Potential practitioners complete workshops in Quantum Touch techniques, and document at least 40 hours of external healing sessions. To become an instructor in Quantum Touch, students must complete the certification process, in addition to completing four workshops.
Degree/License offered : Certified Quantum-Touch Practitioner, Certified Quantum Touch Instructor
Length of study : Quantum Touch can be learned in as little as a weekend, although for certification purposes, it can take up to a year, as students attend required workshops.
Cost/Financial Aid : $200 to register as a Certified practitioner, $180 for workshop fees, in addition to seminar fees. For instructor status, students must complete four workshops, each averaging $90-$100, and pay a $300 fee for registration. Although students do not usually qualify for government financial aid, Quantum-Touch schools often reduce the cost of seminars after students have completed one or two.

Quantum Touch is relatively new on the scene, and because scientists still view it as an alternative therapy, the benefits of this therapy is slow to be research. However, other alternative therapy practitioners have taken up the slack, and have found some compelling evidence as to the validity of Quantum Touch therapy.
1. A massage therapist conducted an independent research project in 2005 as to the effect of Quantum-Touch therapy on Fibromyalgia patients. This therapist found that after one month of 60-minute sessions, the patient's pain scale range was significantly reduced, and sleep time was increased by more than three hours.
2. In 1996, Duane Garner, the basketball coach at the University or California, Santa Cruz noted that sessions with a Quantum Touch practitioner allowed injured players to return to active status more quickly and actually increased their performance in a long-term fashion.

Practitioner Training & Licensure:
|
Quantum Touch healers have no licensing requirements, and practitioner training is completed through the Quantum Touch certification program. However, many practitioners are licensed in other modalities like Massage Therapy, and in fact, Quantum Touch qualifies as a continuing education course for licensed massage therapists.
|
Average Salary/Hourly Rate:
|
Quantum Touch healers can charge up to $100 for a two-hour session, although this varies greatly by area. Those who lead workshops can charge $300-$400 per person. Traditionally, Quantum Touch therapists do not worry as much about the cost of their services as the effect those services have on their patients.
